Computational Chemistry
The problems studied were computer generation of benzenoid hydrocarbons, perfect matchings of square, pentagonal and hexagonal chains, and benzenoid chains with unique Clar formulas.
The problem of enumerating fusenes and benzenoid (or polyhex)
hydrocarbons (i.e. figures composed from regular haxagons) has been studied in
hundreds of papers in chemical literature. The main data are the number of
polyhexes with given number h of hexagons and the classification
according to various parameters like perimeter, symmetry etc. The tables
obtained by computer means reveal important properties of these structures
(e.g. stability and color excess) and are used to derive further results in
chemical literature. In 1987, Stojmenovic, Tosic and Doroslovacki computed
these tables for h=11 (141229 in total). This was done using a computer
program written by Stojmenovic, and run a fast computer in
